Terms of Service

Last updated: June 9, 2026  |  The Grant Map (thegrantmap.com)  |  StanHattie LLC, Des Moines, Iowa

Short version: The Grant Map is a free research tool. We work hard to keep it accurate, but grant programs change constantly. Always verify directly with program administrators before taking action. We're not a government agency and not a lawyer.

1. Who These Terms Apply To

These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to anyone who uses The Grant Map website at thegrantmap.com, operated by StanHattie LLC, Des Moines, Iowa ("we," "us," "our"). By using this site, you agree to these Terms.

If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

2. Information Accuracy, Please Read This

Important: Grant programs change. Funding runs out. Deadlines shift. Eligibility rules get updated. We do our best to keep everything current, but we cannot guarantee that every program listed is still active or that the details are 100% accurate at the time you read them.

Always verify program details directly with the administering agency or organization before taking any action. This means calling the phone number, visiting the official program website, or speaking with a program administrator before spending money, signing contracts, or making decisions based on what you read here.

We are not responsible for any actions you take, or don't take, based on information on this site. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Applying for a program that has closed or changed its eligibility requirements
  • Purchasing materials or hiring contractors in anticipation of grant funding
  • Missing a deadline because information on our site was outdated
  • Any financial decisions based on grant estimates or recommendations from our tools

3. Not Professional Advice

Nothing on The Grant Map is financial advice, legal advice, or tax advice. We are a research and information tool only. For advice specific to your situation, consult a qualified professional.

In particular:

  • Tax credit information should be verified with a tax professional or the IRS
  • Loan and financing information should be reviewed with a HUD-approved housing counselor or lender
  • Legal questions about grant agreements or contracts should be reviewed with an attorney

4. Not a Government Agency

The Grant Map is an independent research tool operated by StanHattie LLC, a private company. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representing any city, county, state, or federal government agency. We do not administer any grant programs.

Using this site does not constitute an application for any program. To actually apply for a grant, you must contact the program directly.

5. Contractor Directory

Our contractor directory lists local contractors who offer services relevant to grant-funded home improvement projects. Listing in the directory is free; contractors pay only when they accept a homeowner lead, at the per-lead rate disclosed on our site.

  • We do not verify, guarantee, or endorse contractor licensing, insurance, quality of work, or any other aspect of their business
  • Some listings are "unclaimed," meaning we created them from publicly available business records rather than from the contractor signing up. Unclaimed listings are clearly labeled as sourced from public records and not yet verified, they do not carry our "Grant-Approved" badge, and their presence is not an endorsement. A contractor may claim, correct, or have an unclaimed listing removed at any time by emailing contractors@thegrantmap.com
  • Listing on The Grant Map is free. Contractors pay only per accepted lead: when a matching homeowner request arrives, you receive a preview without the homeowner's contact details and may accept it for the stated per-lead price (charged to your card on file), which unlocks the full contact information. The per-lead price varies by the lead's trade and the size of the work, and is shown on each lead before you accept it; whether a lead is shared (offered to up to three contractors) or exclusive also affects the price. Founding contractors receive a stated number of free leads first. Declining or ignoring a lead costs nothing.
  • Junk-lead credit: if an accepted lead has a disconnected or invalid phone and email, is a duplicate of a lead you already received from us, or is outside the service area you registered, report it to contractors@thegrantmap.com within 7 days of acceptance and we will credit the charge. Credits are issued to your card or as lead credit at our discretion. Leads that simply do not convert are not eligible, a lead is a qualified introduction, not a guaranteed job.
  • We are not a party to any agreement between you and a contractor you find on this site
  • Any disputes between homeowners and contractors are entirely between those parties, we have no involvement and no liability
  • We reserve the right to remove any listing at our discretion, including for complaints or violations of our policies
  • Always verify contractor licensing with your state licensing board and get multiple quotes before hiring

6. Refund Policy

Refunds depend on what you bought:

  • Per-lead charges (contractors): a lead charge is refundable only through the junk-lead credit in Section 5: report a disconnected/invalid, duplicate, or out-of-area lead within 7 days of acceptance and we will credit the charge. Leads that simply do not convert into a job are not refundable; a lead is a qualified introduction, not a guaranteed job.
  • Dataset / API licenses: annual licenses renew yearly and can be cancelled any time before renewal (Section 15). We do not refund a license year already started except where Section 15's continuity terms say otherwise. Pilot purchases are one-time and non-refundable once the API key is delivered.
  • Sponsorships: billed monthly; cancel any time through the Stripe portal and the placement ends at the close of the paid month. No pro-rated refunds for partial months.
  • Homeowners: everything on the site is free for homeowners, so there is nothing to refund.

Approved refunds and credits are processed within 5-10 business days to the original payment method. Questions: support@thegrantmap.com.

7. Embeddable Widget License

If you use our embeddable grant lookup widget on your website, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable, non-transferable license to embed and display the widget for informational purposes.

You may not:

  • Modify, reverse-engineer, or extract the widget code for any other purpose
  • Represent the widget as your own product
  • Use the widget in a way that violates these Terms

We may revoke this license at any time. If we update the widget, we'll make reasonable efforts to maintain backwards compatibility.

8. Affiliate Disclosure

Some links or quote modules on this site may be affiliate or referral placements; where they appear they are labeled. If you click one and purchase or request a quote, we may earn a commission or referral fee at no additional cost to you. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.

9. User-Submitted Content and Data

When you submit information through our forms (address lookup, interest forms, data correction requests, etc.), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that information to operate and improve The Grant Map. This includes using your address to match you with grant programs and using feedback to improve our data.

Testimonials and reviews. If you submit a story or review through one of our invitation links and check the publication consent box, you additionally grant StanHattie LLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to publish, display, and excerpt that content on The Grant Map and in our materials, attributed with your first name, last initial, and city only. You may withdraw this consent at any time by emailing support@thegrantmap.com and we will remove the published story within a reasonable period. We may edit for length or clarity without changing meaning, and we may decline to publish anything.

You represent that any information you submit is accurate and that you have the right to submit it.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, StanHattie LLC's total liability for any claim arising from your use of The Grant Map is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. For free users, that amount is $0.

We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, missed grant opportunities, or contractor disputes, even if we were advised such damages were possible.

Some states do not allow limitation of consequential damages, so this limitation may not apply to you in full.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Grant Map is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranty, express or implied. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the information will be complete, accurate, or up to date.

12. Governing Law and Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any legal action arising from these Terms must be filed in the state or federal courts located in Polk County, Iowa.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the site after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.

14. SMS Text Messages

The Grant Map uses SMS text messages only with contractors and contractor business listings, never to text homeowners. There are two cases:

  • Claim verification. When a contractor enters a phone number to claim a business listing, we send a one-time verification code to that number.
  • Listing-claim notices. A business whose phone number appears in our public-records contractor listings may receive a message that a homeowner project is available in its area, with a link to claim the free listing.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time (you will receive no further messages), HELP for help, or START to opt back in. Opting out is honored permanently. By providing a phone number you consent to receive these transactional messages. We do not sell phone numbers and do not send marketing text blasts to homeowners.

15. Dataset Licensing and API

We license programmatic access to our program dataset through an API key. If you receive an API key:

  • Access is for use inside your own product or service. Reselling, redistributing, or republishing the raw dataset is not permitted without a separate written agreement.
  • User-facing surfaces that display the data must attribute it ("Program data by The Grant Map").
  • Access is subject to the rate limits of your tier and may be suspended or revoked for abuse, non-payment, or breach of these Terms.
  • The data is informational and provided "as is." We do not warrant that every figure or deadline is current; your product should treat each program's official source as authoritative.
  • Reliance and routing. The dataset is a discovery and routing layer, not a grant processor. Products that display program data to end users must also surface the program's official source URL so users can verify eligibility, amounts, and deadlines with the administering agency before acting.
  • Continuity. Annual licenses include a continuity commitment: if we discontinue the API, paying licensees receive at least 90 days written notice, a pro-rata refund of any unused license term, and a final full snapshot of the licensed dataset for the remainder of their term.
  • Billing and renewal. Annual licenses purchased through self-serve checkout are billed through Stripe and renew automatically each year at the rate in effect for your license (charter rates are grandfathered for as long as the subscription stays active) until you cancel. Cancel any time before your renewal date by emailing mike@thegrantmap.com; no further charges occur and the API key is revoked when the subscription ends. The 3-month pilot is a one-time charge whose key expires automatically; it is credited toward an annual license if you convert within 30 days of pilot end.
